Europeans have been producing kitchens, in factories (vs. carpenter’s shops) for about 100 years now.

The countries that have the largest amount of kitchen brands are: Italy and Germany. They probably produce about 90% of the kitchens sold in Europe. They also are the largest exporters of kitchens outside of Europe.

You will also find some large kitchen factories in England, France, Denmark, Sweden, Spain and other European countries.

On the right side of the page are the European kitchen companies, by country. If you know a kitchen company, that is not listed, please contact us and will gladly add it.

    Dear Mr. Singh,

Thank you for all the kind words.

It is a toll order, to rate the top 10 Italian and German brands. I’ll do some thinking and do my best efforts to take a shot at it, in one of my future posts.

    Thanks again,

this is really informative site.my question is same as balbir sigh. can i have top ten brand of italian and german kitchen. is there web site which regulary release the ratings for top 10 brand for kitchen and appliances.

    ———————————————————————————————–

    Thank you.

There was a company, in Germany that used to rank manufacturers. From what I was told, at that time, they were being ‘bought out’ every year, by the winner of their ranking. No wonder they are not around anymore… 🙂

I would love to have a top 10 list, but it must be 100% kosher. I’m working on it.

    Soon… keep checking in…

    hi,
can anyone help me to know whether MDF is the better material for carcass of kitchen cabinet or chip board (particle board). what is selction criteria for deciding the material. as in gulf countries the most specified material is MDF, where as most italian and german companies make carcase in chip board. what is the advantage and disadvantage of a particular material.
    ————————————————————————————————
    Hi Nawer,
I believe that both materials are good, for a cabinet box – as long as they are of good quality, they will both outlast all of us 🙂
If I’m not mistaken the reason you see so much MDF in the gulf region is because of the high humidity. Well, if you read my post from March 4 (http://european-kitchen-design.com/italian-kitchen-design/pedini-is-turning-greener), you’ll realize that not all chip boards are created equal…, and the same goes for MDF.
I hope my answer did not confuse you more then it helped but there just isn’t a simple answer to your question.

hi there.I couldn’t find KAFF among the Italian brands listed above. Is that truly an Italian brand?I searched a lot about its Italian connections but couldn’t find anything. They are selling this brand in India as made in Italy. Is that true?
    ———————————————————————————————–
Hi Sasha – I did a bit of a research and from what i found, my best guess is that they are purchasing ‘no name’ appliances, in Italy, under their own private label and are importing them into India.

I want to know some information about these two german kitchen brands about their quality and price level and target audience, Signia and Störmer. Thanks in advance.
    ————————————————————————————————-
    Dear Yavuz,
Thank you for visiting http://www.european-kitchen-design.com – you asked and you shall receive! – I will gather information you requested and will be back with it very shortly – check in soon for my response.

    ————————————————————————————————-
    Hi again Yavuz,
Here is the info you requested, about the two German kitchen companies –
Signia is a product line produced by SieMatic in Löhne. The private level is about 25 % below the Siematic level.
They are not successful with this product, because companies like Häcker, Schüller, Bauformat or Nolte are more competitive.
Störmer is a much smaller company (annual turnover of about €20 M.) who my sources are telling me is fighting to survive in this market enviroment. Their price level is in the low and medium segment of the market.

I live in Gda?sk, Poland. I have big house with big kitchen and I love ultra modern kitchens in your internet site and the modern bathrooms. My problem is in my town the European kitchens you only have IKEA. I try give them modern kitchens pictures from your internet site but they do not understand what I want because they only design small modern kitchens. Do you have advise for me how to buy kitchens from internet? I only want contemporary kitchens not classic kitchens.

  12. mike william

hello mate i am going to Italy to buy my sprayed kitchen in order to save money and get a great product if possible can you please recommend me some Italian companies which are very good and also very competitive. In basic i am trying to achieve a very high mirror finish but not at the stupid prices some of these kitchens retail for. Any advise and information will appreciated
    ———————————————————————————————–
    Hello Mike,
Guessing by the ‘mate’, I’m assuming you’re from ‘down under’ and even if you do not reside there, I’m going to guess that you do not live in Italy. With that said, my word of advise is to be careful with buying the kitchen in Italy and importing it yourself – anything that goes wrong, either shipping damages, a manufacturing error or even your own mistake, will be very costly to fix. In addition, though you may have a local representative of the product, in the country you live in, they may not want to service your kitchen later, should you need it.
Now that I said my piece, assuming that you are still not discouraged, here is my answer – there are many wonderful Italian products that come in the high gloss lacquer finish – if I had to choose one company that is like you called it – “…both very good and also very competitive.” I would pick Pedini -it is a high end product and their lacquer finish, is second to none – the same lacquer finish they offer (made by a company next door to them, named Policurvo srl) is also found on many high end brands, such as Ernestomeda (Scavolini’s high end label) and even B&B Italia. The big advantage is that Pedini also has a very high ‘quality to price ratio’.

I live in Mauritius and only Schmidt kitchens are represented here. I am in the wood panel business and would like to know which kitchen brands are as good in terms of price and quality.

    Thanks if you can help
    ———————————————————————————————–
    Hi Moussa,
There are many brands that are similar to Schmidt in terms of price (or lower), in terms of quality (or higher) and in terms of both.
I’ll need more specifics, in order to give you the correct answer.

    Hi,

I was offered a good deal on a Astra kitchen. The pegaso style in cherry. Is this a well made cabinet? Is it solid cherry. I went to their website, but I can’t understand it because it is in Italian.

    Thanks,

    Luigi
    ————————————————————————————————-
    Hi Luigi,
Astra is on the lower end of the Italian kitchens world – it is a product that is price driven. The Pegaso door seems to be made of at least solid parts, of not the entire door. Please keep in mind that a solid wood door is not an indication of better quality.

  19. Roland

    Hi there,

Was just wondering if you’ve made any progress on your Top 10 list. I know it’s not as easy as it sounds, how do you compare them? By quality of material? Price? Annual Turnover? Number of outlets? But I do think that there needs to be something out there. Perhaps you can expand your side to allow people to add ratings, price category etc to your list. Kind of like a mini Wikipedia for Kitchens.

By the way, you are missing one of the biggest and most important Italian Brands in your list. http://www.valcucine.it also have a look
at http://www.demode.it Ok maybe I’m a bit bias because I represent these brands 😉

    Roland

    ——————————————————————————————
    Hi Roland,
I’m still thinking about the Top 10 List but I have yet to find the right and fair way to do it… It may just have to be several lists, in several categories…

What is the quality difference in Astra versus Aster kitchens? Astra is half the price but is Aster worth the cost? Is there another that is also good quality and good price? Thank you.
    ————————————————————————————————–
    Hi Olga,
I’m sure you’ve heard of the saying “you get what you pay for” – this is exactly the quality difference between the 2 cabinet grades. Aster is a ‘price driven’ product – it is made to be as cheap as possible. Aster, on the other hand, is made much better and therefore is more expensive. If you can afford the Aster price point, you’ll be buying a much better quality that will last longer and will function better. The only other advice I have, is that at the Aster price, you can probably get even better quality product – if you inform me where you are located, I’ll research what quality products are available in your area and advise.
    kitchenguy

  25. olga

Thank you. I am in the north west San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, CA.

I would rather not pay Aster price but I want quality so will pay for a kitchen that will last me 30 or more years without issue.

I was also told to look at Kraftmaid as an American alternative. Do you know of it?

Which other brands would you suggest? Would appreciate any and all help and advice.

    Thank you

  26. Philip Scott

There are many Italian alternatives to Aster, i.e.; Varenna, Schiffini, Snaidero, Pedini and at least 100 more. And other great European companies like Poggenpohl, Bulthaup, etc. If you are looking for a sleek modern design like Aster then Kraftmaid will probably disappoint you.
There are good small American companies, many on the west coast like Neal Kelly in Portland, HenryBuilt in Seattle and AlterEco in S.F., who might be able replicate the style but they won’t be less expensive.
The new American kid on the block who is making a true Italian style kitchen, very similar to Aster is Bazzeo: http://www.bazzeo.com
They just opened up a showroom in L.A. You can reach their V.P. of sales, Kevin Henry, @ 310-880-1645.

  27. olga

    THANK YOU!!!!!

I do want the sleek modern design and the quality of Aster. So I will then stick to a true Italian kitchen and compare cost of Aster to Pedini and the others. I will also give Kevin a call next week.

It will all come to cost of course as long as the quality is equal. Also being that what I need is a more practical design than architectural since I need a lot of storage. But I still want the quality and modern sleekness of an Italian kitchen.

Thank you again so very much!

  28. kitchenguy

    Hi Olga,
Based on your ‘wish list’, Pedini is your best bet! It is a high quality ‘true Italian kitchen’ and has the best ‘quality to price ratio’ in the industry – the quality compares to the highest-end brands and the pricing is closer to the medium price products. Being that you’re in the San Fernando valley, you have a Pedini dealership, right on Ventura Blvd., in Woodland Hills – http://www.bestofitalydesignerkitchens.com.
    kitchenguy

  29. olga

THANK YOU!!!! You have been a wonderful source of knowledge and advice. Truly appreciate it.

Best of Italy on Ventura is where I got the price for Astra. The owner told me Astra is the same quality and everything as Aster. That is my only reservation since he seems to not have been totally honest because since then I have learned form you and others that Aster is much better than Astra. Regardless, I will go back and have them price me the same in Pedini.

    Thank you
    Olga

Hello, well now would like your opinion as to quality of Pedini versus Aster. Is Aster a better quality product than Pedini? Is installation the same for both? Are there any issues with one or the other I should know? Which would you rather purchase?

    Thank you
    Olga
    ————————————————————————————————–
    Hi Olga,
Pedini is a better choice than Aster – both in terms of product construction, as well as the company itself (delivery, customer service, etc.). Installation should be the same for both.

I am looking at a Biefbi kitchen. Is it worth the money? Who are the American dealers?
    Thank you!
    ———————————————————————————–
Hi Ann, Being that you are looking for this kitchen to be supplied (and installed, I’m guessing), in the US, my answer is “NO!” – For a very simple reason – Biefbi does not have a ‘serious’ dealer network and distribution in the US. There are only a couple of very small unknown dealers who sell it – you will not get the service level, the design expertise, etc. to make it “worth the money” you will be spending. You will be better off, if you go with a company that has a real presence in the US and a strong dealer network.

    Hi Kitchenguy

Great site, nice to get impartial advice. We are looking into 2 companies Pedini and Varena Poliform for Kitchens, from what I’ve read it sounds like Pedini will be better regards quality to price ratio although I haven’t managed to find much info on Varena pricing. Do you know what an average Pedini Kitchen would roughly cost VS what an average Varena Kitchen costs – we are looking at a high gloss lacquered finish. I know its a tough question because your definition of average might be different to mine but at least we can get a rough idea of the differences between the companies pricing

    Thanks in advance
    ————————————————————————————————-
    Hi Graham,

Thanks for visiting and for the kind words.

Both brands are of the highest quality and are successful exporting their products already, but there are several factors you need to consider before selecting the one to sell in your company:

    1. How important of a customer, you are going to be to the company – the larger the company, the more volume you’ll need to generate, for them to consider you an important client.
    2. Product offering depth and matching it to your clients taste.
    3. Company policies, procedures and support – do they meet what your firm needs and requires?
    4. Any potential option for growth and business development in the future (if interesting for you).

Obviously, there’s a lot more to it and I wouldn’t mind exploring the subject further with you, but this is it, ‘in a nut shell’.

    Hoping it helps.

Hi – just stumbled on this site, what a fantastic resource! Do you have any suggestions for a good quality and mid-priced line that has a showroom in the San Francisco Bay Area? In particular something with a “retro” look, more Fifties Modern than Italian Modern (but Good Design, not kitsch…). thanks in advance!
    ————————————————————————————————–
    Hi Spencer,
    Glad you liked the site.
That specializes look you’re after – it is really more of a design (colors, tile, accessories), rather than a brand of cabinets. Try these 2 quality design firms, they have the product and the design know how to assist you:
    http://www.artistickitchen.com/5/cabinetry.html and http://www.korts.com/.

You can acheive a “retro” look with several manufacturers, the Artika line from Pedini in a lacquer finish comes to mind as a good possibility. Korts in S.F.is a Pedini showroom.

    many thanks,
    Prashant
    ——————————————————————————————–
    Dear Prashant,
From an offering stand point, Scavolini is a bit more daring in its designs and Ewe is a bit more conservative but they seem somewhat compatible, overall. As far as pricing is concerned, we are not familiar with the pricing policies in India and so you will need to contact the local distributor and do a price comparison.
    You are very welcome,
    kitchenguy

  47. Prashant

    Hello again,

Also, how do Scavolini or Ewe compare with Aran ?

    thanks, Prashant
    —————————————————
    Hello again Prashant,
Aran is a step down from the other two, in terms of the quality – it is a ‘price driven product’.
    Hope these answers were helpful.
If you are looking for more information – please be more specific and tell me also – are you looking to sell them or to buy one for your own home?

    Hi kitchenguy

I would like to source large quantities of branded kitchen appliance items (such as knife sets, breadbins, pans). We are mainly looking to buy non-electrical items really as we will attempt to sell the items to UK and European companies. We mainly buy these items for closeout/clearance/liquidated prices.

As I said, we only buy well-known branded items, and I was just wondering if you knew of any kitchen appliance manufacturers/distributors in Europe who you feel would be worth contacting with this enquiry?

Not the area of my expertise – sorry…

    KitchenGuy,

What can you tell me about Spazzi kitchens? The website looks good and a local retailer told me he was really impressed with them at a recent kitchen and bath show in the US. He did say they were a lower price point but that he was impressed with the quality.

    Thanks again,
    Andrew
