Nice pretty pictures, but it would be more beneficial for competitions of this sort to feature actual, real kitchens, that function and are not only designed but built by an American manufacturer. There is a growing desire in the residential market for modern kitchen designs, but most people end up buying European systems or having custom cabinets built by a local shop because of the scarcity of domestic manufactures.
The winning kitchen in this competition couldn't possibly function for the daily life of a family and #3 is out of the Jetsons. Number 2 is the only one that looks like it would function in a home, but it's a computer rendering, not a real kitchen.

North Americans seem to be stuck with Victorian kitchen designs. Modern living has also made the dining room and fireplace near obsolete. Money would be better spent on solar heating and cooling
